We couldn’t let the day go without mentioning the hot rumor of the week; the sequel to The Dark Knight may begin shooting as soon as 2010!
While stumping for The Book of Eli (due out in January) at Comic-Con, Gary Oldman let it slip that the next Batman film may start next year with an eye on a 2011 release. In an interview with Quint from Ain’t It Cool News, Oldman did seem to backtrack saying it may actually be 2 or 3 years off. In any event this is certainly more optimistic than recent rumors which had a Dark Knight sequel being pushed to 2013, if ever.
That being said, things are far from settled, as director Christopher Nolan still has to complete his latest film Inception before helming any Batman related projects. I doubt Warner Bros. would move on so quickly on a Bat-flick without Nolan attached after grossing over $1.4 billion with his first two efforts (even with rumors of a list of possible replacement directors).
The smart money has Nolan reuniting with Christian Bale and Gary Oldman in Gotham… and it may happen sooner rather than later.
