Elizabeth Banks Joins Haggis/Crowe Remake

25 08 2009

Last month we reported that Russel Crowe was cast as the lead in Paul Haggis’ remake of Pour elle called The Next Three Days. The film is about a high-school teacher (Crowe) who plans to break his wife out of jail after she is wrongly accused of a crime she didn’t commit. It is now reported that Elizabeth Banks is close to the part of the imprisoned wife in the film, which is looking to start shooting late next month.

I must say that it is refreshing to see an actress who isn’t tied to any genre and mixes it up as she goes. In the span of a year, Banks has done romantic comedy (Definitely, Maybe), biographical drama (W.), horror (The Uninvited), and straight comedy (Role Models) and is now looking at a crime-thriller in this role. Is there any other actress out there who has this kind of range or even goes for this wide variety of roles? It’s as though she is a character actor in the body and roles of a lead actor. Weird, wild stuff.
