Ah, the first weekend of October. Leaves start falling from the trees, the temperature drops and good movies come out of their one-month hibernation. Check out our weekend review of Zombieland later today and your weekend winners are after the jump.
1. Zombieland – $25.0 million– While it was no Shaun of the Dead, critics sang high praises and was good for more than a couple laughs.
2. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs – $16.7 million – Food rain remains as popular fad in its third week, only dropping 33%
3. Toy Story Double Feature – $12.5 million – While not nearly on the same level as a new Pixar film’s opening, this is pretty remarkable for a ten-year-old reissue. It’s only in theaters for two weeks so if you want to see it, see it now.
4. The Invention of Lying – $7.6 million – Despite carrying a terrific cast, critics sank this film faster than the Titanic with a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes.
5. Surrogates – $7.3 million – A 51% plunge in its second week that I believe is directly linked to Bruce Willis’ wig.
