Cast Announced For Rodriguez’s Predators

Last week it was a complete mystery who would star in Robert Rodriguez’s reboot of the Predator franchise, Predators, directed by Nimrod Antal. In an interview, Trejo confirmed that he was involved with the project and details about the plot came out after the script was read by the bloggers over at Latino Review. Now, in a flurry, six new cast members have been added to the project, most likely being the group that is being hunted on the Predator homeworld. Read the rest of this entry »

Machete Cast Confirmed or: Why My Head Just Exploded On To My Keyboard

Robert Rodriguez is either a genius egomaniac or a complete lunatic, it really all depends on what day of the week it is. Regardless of his mental stability, I do find myself enjoying his films more than I should: I love all three in the El Mariachi series, Sin City, and Planet Terror; his segment in Four Rooms is enough to make the whole thing bearable; and From Dusk Til Dawn ranks as one of my favorite guilty pleasures. The reason I think he is cracked in the head is that every week he comes up with a new project or casting and it is impossible to differentiate what is real and what is a wackadoo pipe dream.

As I mentioned above, I loved Planet Terror and Grindhouse as a whole. I was devastated when it bombed at the box office, but understood that it was a genre film for those few that knew about and appreciated the genre and too long for the average movie-goer. As everyone knows, part of the genius of it was the fake trailers, which gets to the heart of this post: since before Grindhouse even premiered, Rodriguez was talking about a feature length Machete film.
