Trailer: Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans

9 10 2009

The official trailer for Werner Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant is out, and it looks every bit as ridiculous as I hoped it would. This is the role Nicolas Cage was born to play, and may even surpass his performance in the bear punching, women beating classic The Wicker Man. Eric was worried that the tagline made him, “imagine Nicolas Cage walking around his house alone with handcuffs on,” but after this trailer anything is possible. When you’ve made Xzibit look like the normal one, you’ve done your job sir. Bravo.

Watch It!: No Signal (And Other Cellular Drama)

25 09 2009

No Signal

No group of people in the world has been hurt more by the omnipotence of cell phones than horror screenwriters. Back in the 1980s, if you were out in the woods on a camping trip, there was no magic way to get in contact with the rest of the world. Every early horror movie could have been avoided with an early, calm phone call, but not anymore. So how do the writers get around this little snafu? Why, they bring their characters to places where cell phones don’t work, of course!

Created by YouTube user richfofo, today’s Watch It! is a compilation of modern horror films that, despite the ever-expanding range of cell phone service in America, eliminate the use of the cell phones with the ole’ “no bars” trick. There really are only three ways to get around the cell phone issue: no signal, dead battery, or broken phone; otherwise, forget about it. Every movie in the compilation was made post-2000, some being theatrical releases, some being straight-to-DVD. I should mention that the video starts off as being funny but slowly gets more and more embarrassing. Like your father hitting on your girlfriend. Video and full list after the jump.
