Trailer: Up in the Air

2 10 2009

Up in the Air

Movie Rule #62391: If you have “Passenger” by Iggy Pop in your film’s trailer, it better deliver. I’ve burned before (The Weather Man) and I refuse to be burned again.

Although it feels like just yesterday that the teaser trailer was released, we now have the theatrical trailer for Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air, starring George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick and a slew of comedic stars. While it is still hard to get a read on the comedy/drama balance that the film strikes (not too uncommon with Reitman’s films), this new trailer is certainly a lot brighter than the last, which told us that everything in our lives is simply weighing us down (a real uplifting message.) The film got incredible buzz coming out of the Telluride Film Festival and is sporting a big fat 100% over at Rotten Tomatoes. If you didn’t know already, this is a film to watch for. Check it out after the jump.

Trailer: Fantastic Mr. Fox (#2)

30 09 2009

Fantastic Mr. Fox

The second trailer for Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr Fox has shown up online and it is nothing short of, for lack of a better word, fantastic. In comparison, the first trailer seemed to be a way to introduce the audience to the animation style with a few funny lines thrown in. The new trailer, however, completely flips the script and gives us a much better idea of what the film is about and, especially, its main character’s motivations. There are some truly funny scenes that will no doubt have you howling (my personal favorite is towards the end with Owen Wilson’s character explaining how to play “Whack Bat.” Prepare to feel good with the trailer below the jump. Trailer: Up in the Air (Teaser)

9 09 2009

Up in the AirYesterday we showed you a brand new clip from Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air and now, thanks to /Film, we have the brand new teaser trailer for the Walter Kirn adaptation.

Surprisingly, the trailer is more dramatic than it is funny (strange for a comedy), but at the same time the whole thing is kind of deep and it also displays what an incredible cast the picture has, images of Jason Bateman (sporting a beard?), Zach Galifianakis (who I didn’t even know was in the movie), Danny McBride and J.K. Simmons (who is in everything these days) coming one after another all while George Clooney delivers a speech reminiscent of his performance in Intolerable Cruelty.

Praise continues to role in from the film’s premiere and while I am not a fan of Juno, the film seems to be more along the lines of Thank You For Smoking. Teaser after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Clip: Up in The Air

8 09 2009

Up in the Air

Following its wildly successful premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, Apple has released a new clip from Jason Reitman’s (Thank You For Smoking, Juno) Up in The Air, starring George Clooney. From IMDb:

Ryan Bingham is a corporate downsizing expert whose cherished life on the road is threatened just as he is on the cusp of reaching ten million frequent flyer miles and just after he’s met the frequent-traveler woman of his dreams.

The clip, which features the first meeting between Clooney’s and Vera Farmiga’s characters, is now exclusively over at Apple in HD for now (sorry to those with slow connections), but the second we can embed, we shall. Enjoy!

Trailer: The Men Who Stare At Goats

28 08 2009

The Men Who Stare At Goats

Who wants to see a Coen Brothers movie not directed by the Coens?

The new trailer for Grant Heslov’s The Men Who Stare At Goats is now up at Apple and it is, along with The Informant, my favorite trailer of the year. With a fantastic cast of Ewan McGregor, George Clooney, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges and what appears to be a dynamite script, this film may get some major attention as a Fall release. The movie will be premiering out of competition at the Venice Film Festival and will be in theaters on November 6th. The trailer is down below or you can watch it in glourious, beautiful QuickTime over at Apple. This trailer certainly gets the Geek on Film seal of approval. Read the rest of this entry »

Rant of the Week! – Week 2

6 08 2009

scream

Last Thursday, I posted the trailer for the new film by my favorite filmmakers: The Coen Brother’s A Serious Man. As I pointed out in the post, unlike the Coen’s most recent movie, which starred the likes of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton, John Malkovich, and Francis McDormand, their next release sports Richard Kind as the most notable name. Why would this make me mad enough to use up the Rant of the Week? It doesn’t; it is the film’s constricted release that has me up in arms.

Following its premiere during the upcoming Toronto Film Festival in September, A Serious Man will receive a limited release stateside on October 2nd. May I remind everyone here that this is a film making pair that has won four academy awards, three of which came in 2007. Read the rest of this entry »

Trailer: Fantastic Mr. Fox

30 07 2009

Fantastic Mr. Fox

On Tuesday, I posted the link for Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox website and today we have the brand spanking new trailer. For those that don’t know or don’t remember, Fantastic Mr. Fox stars George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Willem Dafoe, Michael Gambon, and Brian Cox, as well as Anderson regulars Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Anjelica Huston, Adrian Brody, and, of course, Owen Wilson. Here is the film synopsis from IMDb:

Mr. Fox, Mrs. Fox, and all their fox babies live under a hill under a tree, along with Badger, Rabbit, Weasel, and all of their families. To make ends meet, every night, Mr. Fox steals a meal from one of the three crooked farmers–Boggis, a chicken farmer, Bunce, who has a little bit of everything but only eats duck liver, and Bean, who farms turkeys and apples and subsists solely on apple cider. With his keen sense of smell, and the farmers’ distinctive diets, Mr. Fox has no problem evading them.

After so much treatment, the greedy farmers band together to end Mr. Fox. They ambush him at the base of his hole in the hill, and while Mr. Fox survives, his tail does not. Thus begins an obsession on the part of the farmers. They first try to dig the foxes out, but they are outdug by eight sets of paws. Then, they move to starving them out. This is unfortunate, as no other creatures living under the hill (though now more of a valley; a bulldozer was involved at one point) can get out, either. Mr. Fox is not a very popular figure until he chances across the idea of digging under the farmhouses…

Enjoy the trailer after the jump:
