Poster: The Lovely Bones

9 10 2009

The Lovely Bones

DreamWorks just released the first poster for Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. We posted the trailer way back in August, but this one is aiming squarely for award season, and as with most of Jackson’s work, it is visually stunning. The film also features Saoirse Ronan, who at 15 already has an Oscar-nomination for her work in Atonement, and the early buzz is she may be a contender for this as well. The Lovely Bones is due out December 11th, and I’m expecting big things. Poster (and a few stills) courtesy of Yahoo after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Poster: Toy Story 3 (Rex)

9 10 2009

Toy Story 3 (Rex)

Pixar has released a poster for Toy Story 3 featuring Rex the Green Dinosaur (Wallace Shawn). Given the release of the film isn’t until next June, I would expect each character to get their own poster including Mr. Pricklepants. It’s Toy Story, I’m not going to try to hype this up, just give into that inner child you know it’s going to be great. Rex Poster from myspace after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Posters: Saw VI, A Christmas Carol, The Men Who Stare At Goats

16 09 2009

poster clips

New posters have arrived online for Saw VI, A Christmas Carol and The Men Who Stare At Goats, thanks to IGN, Cinematical, and Yahoo respectively. Bonus points must be awarded to The Men Who Stare At Goats for not only including a goat in the lineup of stars, but also crediting the goat and having the best tagline of the three: “No Goats, No Glory.” Can I say the word “Goat” one more time in this post? Goat.

Full size posters (sorry about the IGN stamp on the Saw poster) after the jump.

Rant of the Week: Takers… Are They Serious?

11 09 2009

Takers Poster

No that’s not a horrible photoshop job by me, apparently that’s really the poster for next year’s Takers. I saw it floating around online a few days ago and figured it was just another internet joke, putting the heads of bad actors together in a movie. Instead it’s a real poster from Sony and Screen Gems who are putting a bunch of bad actors (and Idris Elba) together in a movie.

Not every movie can be The Godfather or even Heat which is clearly an inspiration for this, but damn, aspire for something! This movie could not be any more cliché if they tried. Then again it’s obvious from the trailer (after the jump) that they didn’t. Read the rest of this entry »

Poster(s): Where The Wild Things Are

11 09 2009

Where The Wild Things Are Clip

The new character one-sheets for Spike Jonze’s Where The Wild Things Are have appeared online and I wish it was colder out because these posters make me want to curl up in a blanket. Perhaps its a bit of a regression, but I feel like I am going to bawl for 100 minutes in the theater. And now I am afraid I have said to much.

Four extra-cuddly character posters after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Poster: Michael Jackson – This Is It

Michael Jackson - This Is It

The poster for Michael Jackson’s posthumous concert film This Is It has been released in advance of its October 28th opening. The film centers on the months before the entertainer’s death as he prepared for his 50 show comeback in London’s O2 Arena and is directed by Kenny Ortega (High School Musical, Newsies), Jackson’s creative partner and tour co-ordinator. Ortega is calling this “a gift to Michael’s fans” and while I’d be lying if said I wasn’t conflicted about whether the movie is a fitting tribute or will turn out to be just a cash grab, that’s something we’ll have to wait and see. Either way the full poster is after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Poster: Fantastic Mr. Fox

4 09 2009

Fantastic Mr. Fox clip

Today seems to be poster day here at Geek on Film and I’m not so sure it’s a good thing. I like seeing the art associated with a film, especially when it’s actually interesting, but nine out of ten times it is just a simple one sheet with floating heads or characters standing around – neither of which give me to say something witty.

Despite coming from a director with a truly creative and inventive vision, the posters for Wes Anderson films usually fall into the latter category. (See The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, or The Darjeeling Limited) Now we have the poster for Fantastic Mr. Fox (thanks to FirstShowing.net) and I am again disappointed. Perhaps Anderson saves all his creativity for the films, which I am 100% okay with.

Poster: Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans

4 09 2009

Bad Lieutenant clip

Comingsoon.net has released the new poster for Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans and I am getting some terrible Ghost Rider vibes. Wener Herzog is a great director and all, but if casting Nic Cage wasn’t worrying enough, the poster makes it seem as though they aren’t even going to try. Poster: Where The Wild Things Are

Where The Wild Things Are Clip

MSN has put up a new poster for the highly-anticipated Where The Wild Things Are and I need a shot of insulin. Everything about this film looks so sweet and perfect that I might go into a diabetic coma. Is it wrong that I just want to give Carol a big fuzz-filled hug? Hell, I would even settle for a James Gandolfini hug at this point. Full size poster after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Poster: The Smurfs

2 09 2009

I had almost forgotten they were making a Smurfs movie, but PVC Blue has scanned a print copy of the first poster online. As you’ll be able to tell, the Smurfs are CGI and will be appearing in 3D. Sony has turned to Raja Gosnell to direct whose credits include Home Alone 3, Big Momma’s House and both Scooby-Doo movies… yeah.
