I must say that while critics gave it strong marks, it is a weird day when a movie about comestible precipitation (yeah, I went to college) is able to take the number one spot two weeks in a row and drop less than 20%. October can’t get here soon enough. All that and more in your weekend winners.

Weekend Review: The Informant!
21 09 2009When you get past the smaller details, there are two reasons people lie – to protect someone’s feelings and for personal gain. The former, also known as white lies, are told when grandma gives you a pair of tube socks for Christmas or you tell your wife that you would rather go clothes shopping than play golf with your friends. The latter can come in a range of sizes, be it telling your boss you are sick to get out of work or defrauding a major corporation for millions of dollars. Mark Whitacre, Matt Damon’s character in Steven Soderbergh’s The Informant!, certainly falls in to the second category. Read the rest of this entry »

Weekend Winners
21 09 2009Evidently, with the exception of kids and their parents, nobody wanted to go see a movie this weekend. Perhaps the workload after a relaxing summer finally kicked in, perhaps people wanted to watch the football, but, nonetheless, Hollywood can’t be happy. Your top five from this past weekend after the jump.

Weekend Preview: Cloudy With a Chance of Informants
18 09 2009Finally, after weeks and weeks of waiting, we finally have a weekend with some good movies coming out. Too bad they had to be soiled by a run-of-the-mill romantic comedy and a crappy teen horror flick. Your weekend preview after the jump.

Clips: The Informant!
14 09 2009After picking up some positive buzz at both the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, Steven Soderbergh’s The Informant! is set to be released nationwide this Friday. For those as impatient as a chimpanzee looking at a banana through a plate glass window, feel free to smash it because we have seven new clips thanks to TrailerAddict. None of the clips are very long, never exceeding 1:15, but they do give a taste for the comedic style and how incredibly dumb Matt Damon’s character truly is. You can check them out on the link above or watch all the clips embedded after the jump.
Just as we always do when we post clips, we will take this opportunity to warn you that watching clips may harm your movie watching experience. We always watch the clips before posting them so that we may warn against spoilers and would be sure to inform you should there be any. Most of these clips are extended scenes from viewers have already seen in the trailers and provide merely a taste of what you can expect from the film as a whole.

Poster: The Informant!
30 07 2009A few weeks ago, the trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s The Informant came out and I was blown away. The film has a great retro feel and the character that is being played by Matt Damon, Mark Whitacre, seems like it could be a classic character due to his incredible stupidity. That said, the original poster for the film looked like this:
