Paris, je t’aime is one of my favorite films from the past five years. Each time I watch it, I am stunned by its complexity and its ability to capture the city so perfectly. More so, those responsible for its creation, actors, writers and directors alike, were all of the highest caliber – not one stuck out as a being so untalented that had no place getting involved with the film.
Then I heard wind that they were making a semi-sequel that would focus on New York. Living a half-hour outside the city for my entire life, I liked the idea, despite the fact that the movie was already made in 1989 – New York Stories directed by Francis Ford Coppola, Woody Allen, and Martin Scorsese. But therein lies the problem: Coppola, Allen and Scorsese are the ultimate New York directors. None other in the history of cinema has been able to capture the greatest city in the world like Scorsese and Allen (and to a lesser extent Coppola).
