Gary Ross is the latest to try his hand at bringing the Spider-Man shoot-off Venom to the big screen for Sony. We told you last week that the Zombieland writing team of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick had submitted two drafts for the project, and Jacob Estes had worked on the project before that. Now it looks like the man who turned Kevin Kline into the President will take on writing a Venom movie. Read the rest of this entry »

Will There Be A Zombieland Sequel?
7 10 2009Walking out of the theater for Zombieland, the first question that came to mind was, “is there going be a sequel?” By the end of the film, all of the elements needed for a sequel were set up, but there is no current plan for another film. Or is there? Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Zombieland
5 10 2009For all their problems, (unquenchable thirst for brains, bad skin, etc.) audiences have always had a soft spot for zombies. The only thing better than the undead is taking them out with a shotgun and fortunately Zombieland has plenty of both. While a number of familiar elements will lend themselves to comparing it to Shaun of the Dead, Ruben Fleischer’s directorial debut manages to stand on its on as a silly but fun Zom-Rom-Com (Zombie Romance Comedy) reminder to enjoy the little things.
We are introduced to our hero Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg channeling Michael Cera) a skinny, nebbish college kid trekking his way through a United States that is now almost entirely taken over by zombies. We aren’t given any backstory or explanation why there is a zombie infestation, and frankly we don’t need one. Far from the social commentary that has taken over the zombie genre, Columbus is just a kid trying to stay alive using his rules for surviving Zombieland, and the movie just wants to have a good time. Spider-Man Spinoff ‘Venom’ Still On The Way
29 09 2009After making the announcement earlier this year, the writing team of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick behind Zombieland has confirmed they are working with Sony which is moving forward with the project. Despite the negative reaction to the character in Spider-Man 3, Sony remains committed to giving the character his own spin-off movie. Read the rest of this entry »

Trailer: Zombieland (International)
26 08 2009We posted the Red Band trailer for Zombieland a couple weeks ago, but now we have the international trailer as it is just as much fun. I’ve always preferred international trailers for R-rated movies, as they tend to contain more restircted material than the standard green band but also don’t focus on it, letting violence/sex/language co-exist with info as to what the film is about. It isn’t really important in this case as everything you need to know about what happens in this movie is told to you in the title, but, like the green-band trailers, it gives the viewer a better sense of how their world works (example: the 47 rules, kill of the week, etc.). Check out the trailer after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Trailer: Zombieland (Red Band)
5 08 2009I have to admit, I have two biases working in favor of this movie: I share the last name of one of the lead actors and I have an INCREDIBLE ego, and there is nothing more in this world that I love more than some good ole fashion zombie killin’. And Zombieland has some serious zombie killin’. How much do I love zombie killin’? I would start the zombie apocalypse myself if God promised me that I could make it a month before getting bit. That’s right, just one month.
Other than that bit of biographical information, the movie itself looks like a lot of fun. One of the biggest inspirations for the film, according to the director, Ruben Fleischer, is Shaun of the Dead, so I am kind of curious to see how much drama is mixed in with the madcap nature of it all (NOT REALLY A SPOILER: I doubt Abagail Breslin makes it through the entire movie). Because of language, violence, nudity, etc. the video isn’t really work-safe, but seeing as it is 8:30 pm I don’t think that really matters…unless you watch it again tomorrow in your office/cubical/garage/cardboard box, which I fully encourage. Also, prepare for the worst rendition of “Dueling Banjos” that you have ever heard. Read the rest of this entry »
