Secretariat

Anyone else sick of “intersecting lives” movies? It started out great with P.T. Anderson’s Magnolia in 1999, but since we have had Crash, Powder Blue, Crossing Over, and a bunch of other films that aren’t coming to mind but I know are out there. Now, according to THR,  John Malkovich, Scott Glenn and Dylan Walsh are joining Diane Lane in Secretariat, and its going to be about – you guessed it – intersecting lives. WTF: Twisted Princesses

22 09 2009

The Little Mermaid

(She has a fork for a hand. Get it?)

We all love the Disney classics: The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Snow White and The Seven Dwarves, Beauty and the Beast, etc. When we were kids, these movies were full of a happy energy that matched our own and it was good. So what could ruin those beautiful stories of fantasy and wonder where the princess ends up with the prince? How about drawing them as demonic figures. Thank you Jeffrey Thomas.

After the break is a series from artist Thomas which depicts the female heroines from the aforementioned films (as well as others) as though they just arrived straight from Hades. It will be sure to creep you out and erase some absolutely precious memories from your childhood. Read the rest of this entry »

Trailer: Messages Deleted

22 09 2009

Messages Deleted

Of all things to become obsessed with, screenwriter Larry Cohen has evidently chosen phones. It started in 2002 with Phone Booth, then moved up to Cellular in 2004 and now he has written Messages Deleted, a new thriller that matches the phone against a bow-wielding Matthew Lillard.

The movie looks horrendously dumb but, at the very least, we can hold out for Cohen’s next three movies including Call Waiting (a romantic comedy with Jennifer Aniston); a remake of Sorry Wrong Number starring cardboard cutouts of Barbara Stanwyck and Burt Lancaster; and THIS IS A MOVIE ABOUT PHONES, which is six hours of Larry Cohen showing you every type of phone that has ever been made. (Please don’t take this last sentence seriously in any capacity)

Trailer after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Watch It!: Drugs Are Fun with Black Dynamite

22 09 2009

FSITO

It should come as no shock that one of our most anticipated releases for the next year is Black Dynamite, starring Michael Jai White. All the material seen thus far (be it from clips or trailers) has been fantastic and only raises expectation.

Now, the people over at Funny or Die have brought us “Drugs are Fun,” a potentially mixed messaged song from the classic show* Ding Dong Lion warning against the dangers of drugs featuring our favorite blaxploitation hero. Check it out after the jump and remember: Fight Smack in the Orphanage.

*not a classic show
